Letter from Laurent Amram

September 8th, 2014

Dear Friends,

We, Jews of the Diaspora were greatly affected by “Operation Protective Edge," and felt despair at the idea that our young soldiers were risking their lives at every moment on the war front. We constantly remained vigilant with regards to information coming from Israel. In spite of our fierce determination to help our soldiers we were inconsequential during this war. Indeed, our soldiers risked their lives while fighting for us and our helplessness was overwhelming.

The only comfort we found was in the prayers we offered to appease our anxieties and concerns.

Greetings,

The Honorable Chief Rabbi David Lau Shlita carefully read your letter and asked me to get back to you regarding the idea of writing Torah scrolls in the memory of the fallen holy spirits that passed during the last act in defending Eretz Israel and its people - "Operation Protective Edge".

Dear Friends,

It’s with great pleasure that I write this letter in support of the Bonds for Eternity project.

This initiative to commemorate the lives of the victims of Operation Protective Edge emphasizes the sense of responsibility and the profound and everlasting connection between the Jewish people in Israel and in the diaspora.

Hello to all,

I received [the] letter concerning the important initiative of writing 75 Sifrey Torah in the name of the fallen in the name of G-d during the last battle – Operation Protective Edge.

Those young soldiers […] are the heroes of our generation. Israel’s heroes such as these are worthy of a holy commemoration...

It is with deep emotion that I read about the magnificent plan to dedicate 75 Sifrey Torah to the civilians and military fallen during Operation Protective Edge in order to honor and perpetuate their memory.

There is nothing more appreciated and more appropriate than looking through the eternity of the Torah, to give the soul of our dear departed, this dimension of sustainability and eternity.

To our brethren, Klal Israel,

During the recent escalation of violence in Israel, some of our finest in Israel, both in the military and civilians, were tragically taken from us. As one family, all of us share their grief and sorrow and we will never forget them and their heroic dedication. All in all, seventy five souls, beautiful neshamot, perished at the hands of the enemy.

Greetings

Your campaign to commemorate the IDF soldiers that died in the name of G-d during Operation Protective Edge, by taking the Sefer Torah for each and every soldier, is a blessed one.

Thanks to your initiative, many synagogues will receive a new Sefer Torah which will be used on a regular basis.

I bless M. Laurent Amram for starting this project and I I strongly support the idea of dedicating Sifrey Torah in the name of the fallen IDF soldiers.

I bless all helpers and organizers of the project wishing them a lot of success.
